Guy Fawkes night + Dundee photography
These are a few snapshots of fireworks taken at Glasgow. It was the biggest firework display I'd ever been to. A good 20,000 people crammed into a park, 2 huge screens set up with presenters hosting the show. It was very impressive. One year, I'm going to get proper photos of fireworks. My batteries ran out almost immediately. I was gutted.
After living 3 months or so in my few flat, I only just worked out how to open the windows, haha. It was a beautfiful misty foggy sunset. I never usually find any reason to do photography in cities, because its just so full of concrete and man made things. It puts me off it for months til I get home again and get the photography bug . But in this case, this was something worth taking.

Lions, Tigers and Bears- OH MY!
It was the annual Edinburgh zoo trip with the animation class yesterday. It was fun. An exotic bird pooped on my head. The day was incredibly dark and the light was terrible, but I got a few snaps to draw from :)

Ozzy the Otter, re-vamp
Ozzy and Tom the Tern |
This morning I woke up incredibly inspired to work a bit more on Ozzy the Otter.
Ozzy the Otter is a project I worked on at high school. As well as being used for my advanced higher art course submission, it was used to as our high school's Young Enterprise Competition product. We created a book based around the characters I developed along with Claire Laurenson and a group of around 6 in our sixth year. It was a huge group effort but within 3 months we had an idea turned into a printed children's colouring book + narrated CD in Shetland dialect and English. We sold a few hundred copies making a good profit. We ranked the no. 2 team in Scotland, beaten by a vote 4/3 against us. (The team that won were a poncy private school that built deck chairs based on a design that they pinched from the internet. Afterwards we had countless 10s of people come over to us and tell us we deserved to win... but it wasn't to be!)
Since then, I have always wanted to make a proper go at doing it again. The original was finished in such a rush and wasn't to the best standard. The characters have so much potential for more adventures.

Here are some rough sketches today of some of the gang.

Pyrography test
This is a piece of pyrography I did on scrap wood approx. 30cm long, back home a few weeks back. I wasn't sure what to do with it, so for a while it became a woody mousemat. Then a cup stand. Still not sure what to do with it.
I really want to do a lot more pyrography in the future but I need to buy the proper tool to do it with. I borrowed a one from a friend of my mother's after my one kicked the bucket half way through doing this wren. Its such a specialised thing though, so the tool is about £80 plus. Maybe I'll get it to me from me at Christmas.
